THE HUMANITARIAN CRISIS
IN SUDAN:
THE FACTS
The Sudanese civil war has
been fought off and on since before Sudanese independence
in 1956. Despite a ten-year period of peace, the
conflict rekindled itself in 1983. The war has largely
been fought within southern Sudan between several
Khartoum governments and the Sudan People's Liberation
Army (SPLA) led by John Garang.
